Our FPIES Journey Part 1: Trigger & Safe Foods

My son was diagnosed with FPIES when he was 13 months old. We had great difficulty finding adequate medical care and finding out what was wrong but have since found a great team of doctors! Read more about our FPIES journey in “Our FPIES Journey Part 2”, coming soon 🙂

Below is a list of T’s triggers foods, reactions, and safe foods. I thought it would be interesting to share these foods for two reasons. 1) These foods obviously influence the recipes and products that are chosen to be feature on this blog.  2) Even though there doesn’t seem to be a ton of correlation between safe and trigger foods among FPIES children (aside from the typical grains, dairy, soy, etc), I still have found it interesting to hear what other’s triggers are and what sort of meals and recipes they are able to put together with them.

Trigger Foods

Most of his acute reactions occur after 2-3 exposures and start almost EXACTLY 3 hours after he eats the food. There have been a few instances of delayed reactions (greater than 3 hours) but it is certainly not the norm.
