Many jams, jellies, etc at my grocery store contain “pectin” or “fruit pectin” but do not specify the source of the pectin. Since pectin can be derived from pears, apples, guavas, plums, gooseberries, oranges, strawberries, carrots, apples, apricots, citrus fruit peels (and who knows what else!?). Oranges and strawberries are two of my son’s triggers, so I am just not willing to take the risk with a product that does not specify the pectin source.
I was at my local health food store today and came across Cadia brand preserves. The ingredients specify “apple pectin”. Since apples are a very reliable and long-time safe for us, this is a big deal!
